Known for fusing contemporary design sensibilities with old world Italian craftsmanship, Marco Bicego creates jewelry that is equally at home paired with an elegant cocktail dress as with a t-shirt and jeans. Exuding an effortless sophistication intended to be layered, and everyday luxury to be lived in – not shuttered in a jewelry box – his pieces are befitting of the modern versatile woman with an immutable sense of personal style.
"The inspiration behind the creation of my jewels is rooted in my Venetian origins and the natural settings surrounding my territory. I have always believed in quality and in the secrets of Italian jewelry. The distinct uniqueness of my timeless jewels can be described through artisanal craftsmanship and imperfect shapes, always made in 18 karat gold." -Marco Bicego

HISTORY OF MARCO BICEGO
In 1958, a small workshop specializing in gold chains was founded by Giuseppe Bicego in Trissino, located in the Veneto region of northern Italy. It was there, as a child spending summers in his father’s burgeoning atelier, that Marco received tutelage from him and other goldsmithing artisans. He learned to make beautiful jewelry in the deeply rooted local tradition. After many years of apprenticeship and working with his father, he struck out on his own and debuted his first collection in the year 2000.

WHO IS MARCO BICEGO
Today, three distinguishing signatures render Marco Bicego designs instantly recognizable: hand-twisted coils, hand engraving, and multicolored gemstones.
I inherited the coil technique from my father,” says Marco. “It’s really something that is in my DNA. I reinvent it every time, and yet it’s something in which I can always recognise my roots." Perhaps the twist was the first reinvention, a happy accident. While a young man spending time at his father’s factory, he observed a machine malfunction, causing a thread of gold to twist. The artisan operating the machine was about to unwind the spiral when Marco was suddenly inspired.
The burin is a traditional tool with origins in the early 1400s. Used in the creation of fine art of hand carving metal, it was quickly adopted by goldsmithing Italians who refined a technique into the style now known as “bulino”. Characterized by micro dots and lines created by pushing precisely shaped tips into metal by hand, bulino is capable of producing near photographic realism that cannot be replicated by machines. The techniques of this time-honored craft have been passed from generation to generation, and live on today. It is showcased in the delicate, finely brushed texture of Marco Bicego pieces, each one unique.
"I personally take a lot of care and am very passionate in the choice and composition of each and every stone chosen for the creation of my fine jewelry. The delicate hues and different shades of our exclusively cut, natural gemstones deliver one-of-a-one-of-a-kind individuality to each piece of jewelry." -Marco Bicego
Multicolor gemstones are carefully chosen and arranged to form delicate palettes of color. Each precious stone’s setting is custom made exclusively for it. It begins with precision impressions and tiny, hand drawn prongs on a sheet of 18 carat gold. Laser cutting is the only machine driven task, while all else is performed by a master artisan to ensure perfection.

HOW IS MARCO BICEGO JEWELRY MADE?
Every piece of Marco Bicego jewelry is conceived by a master craftsman who – while carrying out a predetermined design – does so with the influence of his particular skillset, interpretation of the materials, history of experience, and passion. Thus, no two examples of a necklace, ring, bracelet, or set of earrings can ever be the same. Just as every snowflake dances and grows, each piece is imbued with unique qualities; a rarity that can never be recreated.
With the capability of registering patterns only 13 nanometers deep, the human finger is exquisitely sensitive. In order to truly know a Marco Bicego piece, it’s essential to explore its virtues by touch. Finely wound coils, delicately wrought surfaces, thoughtfully faceted gems. Each one conveys emotion not just visibly, but by feeling.
Gold, gemstones, diamonds, and mother of pearl are all natural elements borne of nature. And with them comes the beauty of infinite imperfections. This inspires the commitment to honor these materials; to translate without altering, to elevate.
